Vertical Mulching
Vertical mulching is the process of making many holes in the soil of the critical root zone of a tree or shrub, creating space for air, moisture, and nutrients to reach the roots of a given tree. This process improves the overall health and vigor. For a tree that is looking unhealthy or worn out, vertical mulching might prove to be the exact solution it needs by encouraging healthy root growth. Specialized tools create holes in a pattern across the critical root zone of the tree/plants affected. Soil amendments are then placed into the holes. Holes are filled with a variety of different mixtures, depending on the intended effect.
