What you need to know about tree removal in Newcastle
Homeowners will be happy to know they do not need a permit or approval from the City to remove a tree on their private property.
If you plan on removing multiple trees, you may need a clearing and grading permit. If you belong to a Home Owners Association, you should check their bylaws as they may have their own restrictions.
What are the exemptions to this rule?
If the tree is located in a Native Growth Protection Easement (NGPE), critical area (wetlands, steep slope or greenbelt) or is part of an approved significant tree retention plan.
If one of these applies, then you will need to contact the City Public Works Department and the Community Development Department to visit the site.
If you have questions about tree removal, please contact the City of Newcastle at 425-649-4444.
