What you need to know about tree removal in Maple Valley
There are various areas in Maple Valley that have restrictions which prohibit the removal of significant trees unless they are deemed hazardous by a certified arborist. As a homeowner, it’s likely your property is not in a restricted area and therefore, you will not need a permit before removing a tree.
How does Maple Valley define a significant tree?
An evergreen or deciduous tree (alder and cottonwoods are exempt) that meet the following criteria:
- Diameter of 12” or more, measured 4.5 ft. above the ground
- In good health
- Not within 1.5 tree lengths from a habitable structure or obscuring safe site requirements at intersections or points of ingress/egress.
If you have questions concerning tree removal, call the City at 425-413-8800 and ask to speak to a planner. They will let you know if there are any restrictions in the area where you want to remove trees.
